This year our Fund a Need program is to pay for the much needed Recess Coordinator for 2016/17. This valuable role was introduced this year and has been ecstatically welcomed by teachers, administration and our children. The recess coordinator plays a critical role in reducing the number of conflicts which occur not only during recess, but also during those critical transition times when recess begins and ends. This allows students to return to class calm and ready to learn, creating a dynamic learning environment for all St. Cecilia students.

Our total goal is to raise $12,600 to staff the Recess Coordinator for one year. Staffing a recess coordinator costs approximately $70 per day, $350 per week, $1,330 a month, $6,300 a semester. By contributing to our Fund a Need you can play a direct role in supporting the social-emotional needs of our school.

What is Fund a Need?
It is a direct appeal for donations (Fund) to support part of our children’s education (the Need). You might ask, aren’t there many needs, given our current state and federal funding? The answer is yes, but guided by our school site council, our principals, teachers and parents, we have chosen to fund the Recess Coordinator Need, which receives no direct funding from SFUSD or the state.

By publicizing Fund a Need, letting your friends and family know about it. They can contribute via our auction website.
By talking about Fund a Need with your friends and family at West Portal Elementary. Make sure people know about it. This is a way you can directly improve your child’s recess and lunch experience AND it is a 100% tax deductible contribution.
By contributing at the auction. The last lot of the live auction will be Fund a Need. Mr. Lucey will ask for pledges at varying levels stating at $500 and working down. Everyone can contribute at some level.
